Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian

Beirut, Apr 27 (RHC) The Foreign Minister of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, will discuss bilateral issues and the latest events in the region with Lebanese authorities, in the context of his visit to Lebanon.

Abdollahian will hold meetings with the president of Parliament, Nabih Berri; the interim prime minister, Najib Mikati; his counterpart, Abdullah Bou Habib; the General Secretary of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and other authorities of the country.

In his first statements yesterday, Abdollahian reiterated Iran’s firm support to the Lebanese people, the Army and the Resistance. He also pointed out that Iran always supports negotiations in the region and does not consider wars as a solution. He praised the ties between the two nations and expressed willingness in consulting ideas aimed at improving the situation in Lebanon.

Abdollahian arrived in Beirut from the Sultanate of Oman and will later continue his journey to Syria, according to local reports.

Last January, the minister renewed Iran’s willingness to cooperate with Lebanon in economic, commercial and energy fields, in light of the worsening living conditions of its citizens. He also highlighted the sufficient competence of the Lebanese political parties to elect the President of the Republic without foreign interference, amid the long power void.

On the regional scene, the foreign minister emphasized Iran’s focus on the doctrine of a balanced foreign policy; in this regard, he advocated ending the war in Yemen, supporting the formation of a comprehensive government in Afghanistan and supporting the Resistance in Syria, Palestine and Lebanon.
