Ramallah, May 4 (RHC)-- The Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has warned that mounting tensions across the occupied West Bank over Israeli military raids and settler-related violence could turn into a new, full-blown intifada (uprising) at anytime soon.

Ahmad Sa’adat stressed that the next intifada would be much stronger and deeper than the two previous ones, and if that happens, that’s a complete breakdown of law and order.  Intifada refers to uprisings against the Israeli regime, the first of which took place between 1987 and 1993, when more than 1,300 Palestinians were killed.

The second intifada took place between 2000 and 2005, when Israel killed at least 4,973 Palestinians.  This was also the time when the whole world watched the cold-blooded killing of 12-year-old Palestinian Muhammad al-Durrah by the apartheid regime.  Israeli media says the apartheid regime stands before what seems to be a third Palestinian Intifada.

Meanwhile, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement has condemned Israeli crimes against Palestinians, stating that such acts of aggression will only beef up Palestinians’ determination and resolve to fight off Israeli occupation through all available means.

“The [Israeli] occupiers have ramped up their vicious attacks in the occupied West Bank against Palestinian activists and resistance fighters. The Zionist enemy seeks to muffle the voice of resistance and liberation through the policy of administrative detention,” Saeed al-Nakhala said in a statement on Sunday.

Nakhala, who has spent more than 17 years in Israeli prisons, added that “Israeli authorities’ dogged persistence on the policies of assassination, detention, suppression, forcible displacement, settlements expansion and expropriation of Palestinian-owned land will only strengthen Palestinians’ resolve to use all forms of resistance until the final victory over the Zionist apartheid regime.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nakhala praised Sheikh Khader Adnan, a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement who has been on hunger strike for more than 80 consecutive days in protest at his detention.

The leader of the Islamic Jihad movement also pointed to Israel’s threats of resuming assassinations against members of Hamas and other resistance factions, emphasizing that Palestinian movements will be unfazed by targeted killings as the entire nation feel it is their duty to continue resisting the occupying regime until the liberation of occupied territories.
