Mexico City, June 1 (RHC)-- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, held a meeting with Elizabeth Sherwood, advisor to the president of the United States, Joe Biden, in matters of national security, with whom he agreed on greater bilateral collaboration to confront fentanyl trafficking.

During the meeting, which was attended by the Mexican security cabinet and took place in the National Palace, seat of the Executive Branch, the actions in the U.S. to control the sale of weapons were discussed and the migratory flow was reviewed, emphasizing that there are one million people in regulated labor mobility.

At the end of the meeting, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard emphasized that in the matter of fentanyl, greater coordination has been achieved to determine the flows and identify those responsible.

"Joint meeting on the migration issue with Elizabeth Sherwood- Randall, White House Homeland Security Advisor, Ambassador Ken Salazar and other public servants of the U.S. government.  Special thanks to the governors of Chiapas, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Veracruz.  With cooperation for the welfare and humanitarian treatment of migrants, we are advancing in the policy of good neighborliness," reported the Mexican President.

Ebrard emphasized that the collaboration helps to create new strategies in the face of the increasingly sophisticated way in which organized crime operates.  He highlighted the importance of the issue of arms trafficking, since between 2020 and 2022, 26,000 long arms were seized from organized crime in Mexico.

The meeting was attended by the governors of the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco and Veracruz, with whom a meeting had already been scheduled to review the migration and security situation.
