Kingston, June 16 (RHC)-- The president of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and prime minister of the Bahamas, Philip Davis assured on behalf of the organization that there is no intention to send military forces to Haiti.

The regional leader said that the organization advocates the creation and strengthening of a mechanism to help the Haitian police and forces so that, internally, Haitians themselves resolve their conflicts and achieve a peaceful solution to the current crisis.

Davis added that his suggestion is that such an initiative should provide logistics to help with recruitment and training to ensure that they can do their job as effectively as possible.

The official explained that this is not the solution, in a context where the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris and the Haitian Prime Minister once again brought to the forefront the request to form a multinational task force to help the Caribbean nation deal with the high levels of insecurity that have plagued the nation for more than five years.

For their part, the members of CARICOM met this Thursday in Jamaica to carry out different exchanges with Haitian representatives and to address political, economic and security issues, precisely.  Referring to this meeting, the Bahamian premier stressed that there were at least 50 political and business community leaders discussing the paths that Haiti should take to get out of its current context.
