Lima, July 20 (RHC)-- Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets this Wednesday in Lima, the capital, as well as in dozens of cities in the country, to demand the resignation of the appointed president Dina Boluarte and the closure of Congress, as well as an early election.

In Lima, the demonstrators reached the outskirts of the Congress, in downtown Lima, where they were repressed by agents of the National Police (PNP) who threw tear gas bombs and pellets.  Of the injured, four were treated at the site of the rally and seven more required hospitalization, according to a report from the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

From the regions and the fronts of the Limas, the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the exit of the Congress were demanded. 

Also in Washington, DC, dozens of Peruvians staged protests on Wednesday to demand the departure of U.S. troops from the South American country.  

Peruvians are demanding that Boluarte leave office.  She was appointed as the country's president by Congress last December after the removal of constitutional president Pedro Castillo, who is in prison on trumped-up charges of rebellion.
