Guatemala City, August 20 (RHC)-- The magistrate of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Guatemala, Blanca Alfaro, advanced in the framework of the second round of the presidential elections, that she made the decision to resign from her position, due to the inadequate environment in which she carries out her work.

"My function reaches this election, that is what I was elected for.  I did not resign before because it was time to comply with my country.   As of Tuesday, I am considering presenting to the Congress of the Republic (her resignation) and submitting myself to any trial that is under investigation as an ordinary citizen."

"It is difficult my situation as a woman and as an official. I had not seen elections so complicated, with so much polarization. There are hurts and there are wounds, we are confronted and that is not good in a democracy", she indicated.

"The Minister of the Interior called me yesterday and has worked hand in hand with us, as Tribunal; he has offered me security.  The threats against me have been coming for about three months. I have been told that what happened to former prosecutor Virginia Laparra is what is going to happen to me", she denounced.

The official did not specify if the threats had been received by other magistrates through the same means, but she assured that she will file the complaint on her part. "I have the chats and I have the telephone numbers", she declared.
