Albania chairs UN Security Council during September

United Nations, Sep 1 (RHC) Albania will preside from this Friday and during this September the United Nations Security Council, where it participates as a non-permanent member during the period 2022-2023.

 

The nation has been a member of the United Nations (UN) since December 14, 1955 and will lead its highest security body after succeeding the United States.

 

In June 2021, the country was elected for the first time in its history as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for a two-year term, which ends in the current term.

 

One year later, in June 2022, Albania chaired the Security Council for the first time.

 

This UN body is composed of five permanent members (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States) and ten other non-permanent members.

 

 

In addition to Albania, this second group is made up of Brazil, Ecuador, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and United States. (Source:PL)
