In September 1976, students under 18 were knidnapped tortured and murdered in Buenos Aires

Havana, Sept 15 (RHC) Hundreds of young people and members of social, political and union organizations will march this Friday in the Argentinian city of La Plata, to remember the victims of The Night of the Pencils, during the last civil-military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983).

On September 16, 1976 and in subsequent days, students aged 18 and under were kidnapped, tortured and murdered in that city by members of the Police of the province of Buenos Aires.

Most of the boys were part of the Union of Secondary Students, a group belonging to left-wing Peronism, and the Guevarist Youth, a branch of the Revolutionary Workers Party. Some of them had participated a year earlier in mobilizations to demand the Secondary Student Ticket.

Gustavo Calotti, Emilce Moler, Patricia Miranda and Pablo Díaz survived that event, while Claudia Falcone, Francisco López, María Clara Ciocchini, Horacio Ungaro, Daniel Racero and Claudio de Acha remain missing.

Since 2014, National Youth Day has been commemorated on this date.

For this day, a mobilization is planned and will begin in Plaza Italia, in La Plata, and will conclude in the vicinity of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Public Works under the motto “The Homeland recovers with the IMF (International Monetary Fund) outside”. The participants will also denounce the intentions of the presidential candidates Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza) and Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio) to end public education.
