Argentina delivers letter to join the BRICS bank

Beijing, October 18 (RHC)-- The Government of Argentina reported Tuesday that it took the first step to comply with the process of joining the New Development Bank (NBD) of BRICS, with the delivery of a formal letter to the head of the financial institution, former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff.

The Casa Rosada (seat of the Executive Power) reported on its social networks that President Alberto Fernandez, who is in China on a working visit, met with the head of the BRICS Development Bank, in the city of Shanghai.

Fernandez, during the meeting with Rousseff, delivered the letter to initiate the process of accession to the bank of the BRICS countries bloc (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

"I sincerely appreciate the commitment of Dilma, my always respected and dear friend, for facilitating the entry of our country to this important bloc", expressed the Argentine president in his official account of the social network X.

He assured that the NDB "is fundamental to provide financing to emerging economies, a great opportunity for the future of Argentina and another step towards an inclusive global financial architecture with more countries involved".

"The agenda of the Global South continues to strengthen", concluded the head of state of the South American nation, who after meeting with the former Brazilian president traveled to Beijing, capital of China, where he took part in the Forum of the Belt and Road, which was inaugurated on Wednesday by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Rousseff, for her part, said: "It is a great joy to receive the president of Argentina at the bank's headquarters, who presented the request for membership, which will have to be examined by the board of directors."
