Quito, September 17 (RHC)-- Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said Tuesday that destabilization processes “similar to those in Venezuela” are taking place in his country, referring to an opposition protest to be be held Wednesday in Quito.

Correa questioned the reasons given by opposition leaders to carry out protests against his administration. “They want to see if it works here," the president said –- referring to destabilization plans.

The Ecuadorian president underlined contradictory statements by alleged union leaders who say they are protesting against his government for eliminating outsourcing and raising wages in the entire country as the highest in the Andean region.

The president highlighted that during his administration, companies are required to declare their profits and distribute 15 percent among their workers.

Correa also said that institutions must affiliate their employees to the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security to guarantee retirement benefits.

The president requested Ecuadorans who support him to take to the streets to show that "we are more; we are many more."
