Rafah, February 5 (RHC)-- A United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) convoy was hit by Israeli naval artillery fire in Gaza.  UNRWA Gaza director Thomas White wrote on X: "This morning, a food convoy waiting to move into northern Gaza was hit by Israeli naval gunfire; fortunately, no one was injured."

For his part, UNRWA director Philippe Lazzarini noted on that social network that "although we send notifications about all aid convoys and coordinate all our movements, they continue to come under attack. Civilians and aid to civilians must be protected at all times."

The World Food Program reported last Friday that it had also failed to reach northern Gaza for the third time in a week.  "We managed only four convoys in the month of January, that's about 35 truckloads of food for almost 130,000 people," said Matthew Hollingworth, WFP's director for Palestine.

"It is really insufficient to prevent a famine and we know that hunger in Gaza is reaching that level now," he said.

More than 27,400 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in Gaza by Israeli attacks, and more than 66,800 have been injured.
