Gaza City, February 8 (RHC)-- Another Palestinian journalist has been killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, pushing to 124 the death toll for members of the press targeted by the Tel Aviv regime since the outbreak of the bloody onslaught against the besieged territory.

The Gaza Media Office said in a statement that Rizq al-Gharabli, director of the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) in the Gaza Strip, lost his life in Israeli airstrikes on the city of Khan Yunis on Tuesday.

The media office previously said that Israel has intentionally killed journalists in Gaza with the aim of silencing the Palestinian narrative, concealing the truth and preventing news from reaching regional and international public opinion.

In a statement on Wednesday, the PIC mourned the death of Gharabli, called for protection of Palestinian journalists and holding Israeli officials accountable for their repetitive crimes against Palestinian journalists.  “As we mourn our martyr and fellow journalist and academic Dr. Rizq Al-Gharabli, we strongly condemn the Israeli army’s continued targeting of journalists and media professionals,” the statement read.

The center went on to denounce Gharabli’s killing as a desperate Israeli attempt to silence the voice of truth and cover up its shameful offenses and violations of all international principles and regulations.

The PIC called on international human rights groups and humanitarian institutions to take effective measures to ensure that Israel is prosecuted, brought to justice, and obligated to protect journalists as well as freedom of speech.

The center urged international organizations concerned with freedom of the press and protection of journalists to condemn the systematic murders being carried out by the occupying Israeli regime, and to hold account all those involved in such heinous crimes.

Israel waged the bloody war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories in retaliation for the Tel Aviv regime’s incessant crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Since the start of the aggression, the Tel Aviv regime has killed at least 27,708 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the territory.  The campaign has devastated large swathes of Gaza, destroyed hospitals and displaced half of its population of 2.4 million.

Israel has also imposed a “complete siege” on the coastal sliver, cutting off fuel, electricity, food and water to the more than two million Palestinians living there.
