Kingstown, March 1 (RHC)-- Colombian President Gustavo Petro affirmed Friday that the main danger to conceive Latin America as a peace zone is the climate crisis generated by the capitalist system, during his speech at the VIII Summit of Heads of State of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

The Colombian head of state stressed that in order to "consider ourselves as a zone of Peace" it is necessary to "evaluate the dangers that Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean poses".

"There is an immense one, which is that of the world, of humanity itself, of the planet: Why is violence increasing in the world?" said the Colombian leader.

"I dare to suggest that it has to do with the main problem of humanity, the climate crisis, which is produced by an economic system, let's call it what it is, capitalism," he emphasized.

In his opinion, to be overcome it needs a new decarbonized economy.

He pointed out that the increase in violence and war in the world has to do with the climate crisis and must be overcome by a decarbonized economy.

Peace in our region is political, economic and military autonomy, he said.
