Republican National Convention makes Trump's candidacy official

Washington, Jul 16 (RHC) Donald Trump was officially nominated Monday as the Republican Party's presidential candidate for the U.S. elections next November at its National Convention that began in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After energetic speeches by party leaders and a roll call of delegates representing the 50 states where they informed to whom they were giving their electoral votes, the response was to endorse Trump.

Previously, the Republican Party (GOP) adopted its 16-page platform, influenced by the former president in which the policies he promises to implement if he returns to the White House are related.

According to the contents of the new platform, the language on abortion is toned down a bit and reiterates the former president's concept that this is an issue for the states.

The approved programmatic plan also anticipates tax cuts, massive deportations of undocumented migrants in the United States and a proposal to build a missile defense shield over this country.

In a general sense, the Trump campaign had total control over the GOP platform this year, unlike in previous years.

The confirmation of Trump, 78, came as the former president himself announced on his Truth Social network that Ohio Senator JD Vance, 39, will be his running mate in 2024.

Much anticipation existed here in the media over Trump's choice of vice-presidential nominee in the battle to return to the White House.

Vance was on a short list of three names that included fellow senator Marco Rubio of Florida and Doug Burgum, governor of North Dakota.

The Republican National Convention will conclude Thursday in an armored Milwaukee following the shooting attack at Trump's campaign rally in Pennsylvania that left him wounded in the ear and two others in critical condition, as well as one dead among his supporters at the rally.

The Democrats will hold their National Convention from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, Illinois, but the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris pairing is trying to recover from a crisis, in the face of persistent calls for the president to give way to another figure and abandon his reelection bid if they want to beat Trump in November.
