Scenes of terror after Israeli attack in Gaza, UN official says

Havana, Jul 16 (RHC) The United Nations deputy humanitarian coordinator for Palestine, Scott Anderson said Monday that the most recent Israeli attack in Al Mawasi, designated as a safe space in Gaza, left terrifying scenes with dozens of dead and wounded.

In statements to the press from the enclave, the envoy explained that the impact hit nearby tents and houses which caused "some of the most terrifying scenes I have seen in the nine months since the conflict in Gaza".

Anderson said that as a result, more than 100 people were injured and the air was filled with the smell of blood, while he stressed the need for a ceasefire to address the humanitarian needs of Gazans caught up in the conflict.

"The Nasser hospital, where the wounded arrived, does not have enough beds, hygiene supplies, sheets, mattresses or gowns and many patients were treated on the floor or on benches in the waiting room without disinfectant, which even puts treatable injuries at risk of sepsis and much more serious complications," he warned.

The official commented that "one health worker was cleaning up pools of blood on the floor using only water because there are not enough supplies or disinfecting material or other cleaning supplies to stop the spread of infection."

He also warned of the breakdown of law and order in the Strip, which he considered an urgent challenge as the smuggling business thrives profitably in the absence of local police.

Anderson recalled that since October 7 last year, 190 facilities of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) were attacked, most of them on more than one occasion."

Unfortunately for the people of Gaza, the displacement orders continue while about 300,000 people remain in the north and the most recent arrangements forced 200,000 Palestinians to flee again," said the deputy humanitarian coordinator. (Source: Prensa Latina)
