Caracas, August 8 (RHC)-- The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Venezuela has opened a criminal case to determine the responsibilities of a web portal that is causing the dissemination of false information and confusion among the population of the country.

In the publication of the digital page called https://resultadosconvzla.com/ in a notorious and communicational way, “alleged forged or falsified documents are published, with which it is intended to illegally usurp functions of the National Electoral Council," said a statement.

The text signed by the Attorney-General of the Bolivarian Republic, Tarek William Saab, indicated that “those responsible for publishing and maintaining this page will be investigated for allegedly committing several crimes.  He mentioned usurpation of office, forging of public documents, instigation to disobedience of the laws, computer crimes, association for crime and conspiracy.

He stressed that the Public Prosecutor’s Office, true to its constitutional mandate of being the body responsible for conducting criminal investigations, will remain vigilant in the face of any act that undermines the peace and stability of the country.

The aforementioned web portal was rented for a year on the day before the elections of July 28th, which showed that Edmundo González and María Corina Machado had decided “not to comply with the outcome of the National Electoral Council, but they staged a farce with a kind of parallel electoral council.”

This was denounced to the national and foreign press by the president of the National Assembly (Parliament), Jorge Rodríguez, who denounced that neither González nor Machado were ever in a position to “accept the legal decision of the electoral arbitrator.”

National and foreign experts from several countries found irregularities in nine thousand 468 minutes published on that digital site, the deputy testified.
