Washington, August 24 (RHC)-- The U.S. government has declared that it will not comply with the ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela regarding the recent presidential elections, where the victory of Nicolás Maduro as elected president of the republic was confirmed.

In a statement made through the U.S. State Department website and signed by Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel, the U.S. claims that the process was an “electoral fraud” and insists that Edmundo Gonzales, the right-wing candidate who says he doesn't recognize the country's electoral authorities, is really the new president-elect.

The U.S. State Department declaration claims there is an crisis in Venezuela, which will only be resolved once “democracy” is restored, as perceived by Washington.

The note concludes by saying that the United States will lend its support for what it called “a democratic process to restore democratic norms” in Venezuela.

Political observers say that the statement comes without being a surprise to anyone, since days after the presidential elections on July 28th, several U.S. government spokespersons hinted that Washington would not recognize Nicolas Maduro as the president of Venezuela.
