Santiago de Chile, August 24 (RHC)-- The Chilean observers who participated in the Venezuelan presidential elections on July 28th have delivered a letter to their country’s head of state, Gabriel Boric, rejecting his statements about the elections.

According to observers, such statements “constitute a serious interference by disqualifying Venezuela’s sovereign institution in contradiction with the self-determination of peoples and international law, which provides for foreign non-intervention in the internal affairs of each country.”

In this sense, the observers emphasize that such an interventionist position joins the policy of the U.S. government and its allies in the European Union against Venezuela, “in tune with the anti-democratic sectors of fascism and the extreme right in Venezuela and worldwide.”

They also point out that President Boric has taken different positions when he recognized the de facto presidents of Peru, Dina Boluarte, and Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, who has not yet called elections, despite the fact that his presidential term has already ended.

The observers affirm that “Chile must maintain relations in accordance with the respect for self-determination and sovereignty of peoples and international law with all peoples and states of the world.”

They emphasized that they witnessed an electoral process which they described as legitimate and democratic, and which gave the victory to President Nicolás Maduro.

“We consider it our unavoidable duty to reject the position of your government towards the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its government, and urge you to respect the sovereign decision of the Venezuelan people established in its constitutional order by its institutions."

In the open letter to the Chilean president, the observers recall that Venezuela and Chile are sister Latin American countries and members of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
