Beirut, September 18 (RHC)-- Several Arab countries offered medical aid to Lebanon on Tuesday to treat the more than 2,800 injured by simultaneous explosions triggered by personal pagers.

Jordanian Foreign Minister in office, Ayman al-Safadi, has transmitted by telephone to the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, the instructions of the King of Jordan, Abdullah II, to “offer any medical assistance this sector in Lebanon needs to treat the thousands of Lebanese citizens who were injured in the collective explosion."

During the conversation, al-Safadi rejected any action against the security and stability of Lebanon and stressed the need to halt the serious regional escalation by applying a ceasefire in Gaza, ending the aggression in the West Bank and complying with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

For his part, the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohamed Shia al Sudani, also ordered the dispatch of Iraqi medical teams to Lebanon to provide urgent aid and rapid treatment for civilians injured in the pager explosions, which also left at least 11 dead, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.

“These are matters that require urgent international intervention to prevent the situation from leading to the expansion of the war which targeted months ago the people of the Gaza Strip, civilians in the West Bank and southern Lebanon,” detailed the statement of the Iraqi prime minister’s office.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelaty, offered “any support possible” in a phone call to his Lebanese counterpart, Abdala Bouhabib, and the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Najib Mikati, after learning about the consequences of the cyber attack carried out in several areas of the country and attributed to Israel.

Egyptian Foreign Spokesman Tamim Jalaf detailed in a statement that Abdelaty expressed his support for Lebanon and defended the country’s stability and security, as well as the “not violating its sovereignty from any outside party,” and warned of the danger of “regional escalation leading to a global war”.

“The serious and accelerated developments in southern Lebanon put the region at risk by irresponsible and reckless unilateral actions,” he added before calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
