Beirut, October 21 (RHC)-- Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit has called for the Israeli regime’s prompt withdrawal from Lebanese territories it has occupied amid the Tel Aviv regime's ground offensive against the country.

Aboul Gheit made his remarks during a meeting with Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri in the Lebanese capital Beirut on Monday.  The senior Arab official also said that the league’s priority was to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he dismissed an Israeli illusion of destroying the Hezbollah resistance group, which is defending the country against aggression.    “You cannot destroy an idea,” the Arab League chief was quoted as saying.

Resistance groups have already said they would welcome any constructive proposal by regional mediators to end the crimes and aggression against Lebanon and the year-long genocidal campaign in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Following a massive bombardment of Lebanon, Israel recently began a land incursion of the Arab country. Hezbollah resistance movement has vowed steadfastness in its efforts to defend Lebanon in the face of the Israeli regime.

Israel says its ground troops have entered southern Lebanon but Hezbollah denies it.
The Israeli regime has a history of failed invasions of Lebanon. The regime has invaded Lebanon several times before. It has now launched its sixth incursion into Lebanese territory since 1978.

Israel invaded Lebanon in 2006 in a bid to wipe out Hezbollah, but failed to achieve its objective.

During its ongoing aggression on Monday, the Israeli regime continued its relentless attacks against Lebanon, leaving more civilians dead and injured.  The regime carried out several strikes across Lebanon, causing fatalities among civilians over the past few hours.

An Israeli air raid hit the village of Hazin in Baalbek, eastern Lebanon after a series of overnight airstrikes against Hermel, Baalbek, and the capital Beirut.

In those strikes, the regime targeted Hezbollah-linked financial institutions that actually serve as the economic lifeline for over 300,000 Lebanese. The institutions were part of Hezbollah’s charitable services.

The Israeli occupation forces also dynamited houses in southern Lebanese villages. Lebanese media say Israel planted explosives and detonated a number of buildings in three border villages in the south.

“The enemy army blew up houses in the village of Aita al-Shaab,” Lebanon’s official National News Agency said.

In response, the Hezbollah resistance movement has carried out fresh retaliatory operations against Israeli targets in retaliation for the regime’s brutal aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.

Hezbollah said in a statement that it downed one Israeli Hermes-900 drone which infiltrated into Lebanese territory and forced another drone to retreat into the occupied Palestinian territory.

The resistance movement also launched a salvo of rockets at the port city of Haifa. In addition, the group targeted a command and supply center at the Samson military base, west of Lake Tabariyya, as well as the Israeli regime's Tirat Carmel military base.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah fighters also struck Israeli troop gatherings at several locations, including in the Beria missile base, the town of Markaba, Qalaa Heights, and Hounin barracks, reportedly inflicting casualties.

The Israeli occupation forces press ahead with their relentless bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip now more than one year into the genocidal war.  The Israeli aggression on Gaza began in October last year, claiming the lives of more than 42,600 so far.

Since late September, Israel has launched an intense air and ground offensive against Lebanon after nearly a year of cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah over the war in Gaza. The death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since last October now stands at above 2,460, with nearly 11,500 injured.
