London, November 3 (RHC)-- A Britain-based pro-Palestinian protest network says it has taken down the sculptures of Zionist leader Chaim Weizmann from the University of Manchester.

Palestine Action posted a video on X on Saturday, showing pro-Palestinian activists removing “sculptures of Israel’s first president, Chaim Weizmann, from the University of Manchester.”

“Weizmann secured the Balfour Declaration, a British pledge written 107 years ago, which began the ethnic cleansing of Palestine by signing the land away," it wrote.

“During their colonial mandate, the British introduced home demolitions as collective punishment to repress Palestinian resistance and burnt down many indigenous villages. During this time, Weizmann was president of the World Zionist Organisation," it wrote.

“From the Balfour Declaration to today, the UK remains an active participant in the colonization, genocide and occupation of Palestine.”

The Balfour Declaration, issued on November 2, 1917, emerged as a public pledge to establish “a state for Jews” in Palestine.  Under the controversial declaration, Britain began to illegally and forcibly confiscate the Palestinian land and then hand it over to the Zionist settlers.
