World Conference Against Hunger calls for cooperation in the Face of Challenges
Havana, Nov 9 (RHC) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has highlighted the role of the World Conference Against Hunger, which concluded in Ethiopia, in highlighting the potential for greater cooperation to address the planet's urgent challenges.
UAE Minister of State Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan highlighted Africa's vast agricultural potential and acknowledged the current food security challenges.
Nahyan Al Nahyan noted that the World Hunger Free Conference, held here from November 5 to 7, serves as an important platform to foster partnerships and develop sustainable solutions.
"The UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has made significant investments in agricultural innovation and partnerships, in line with the National Strategy for Food Security 2051," he added.
He described the strategy's focus on improving agribusiness, promoting technology-driven production, reducing waste and managing risk, with an investment of $4.86 billion from 2024 to address the intersection of climate and food security.
He urged nations to foster a spirit of cooperation and solidarity to work towards a better future for all.
On the other hand, the Emirati Minister of State praised Ethiopia's significant progress in the fight against climate change, highlighting the ambitious initiatives that have been taken to lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity.
He reiterated Abu Dhabi's commitment to supporting the African country in its efforts to address the environmental crisis, both nationally and regionally.
He acknowledged the two nations' shared commitment to eradicating poverty by promoting food security.
"We are leading a project on 3,500 hectares near the Omo River, overseeing farming operations and crop sales. Together, we are building momentum for a more resilient and secure future for all," he said.
The World Hunger-Free Conference aimed to address the greatest challenge of our time by harnessing technology, innovation and investment in the food and agriculture sector.
More than 1,500 participants attended the event, which was organized by the Government of Ethiopia in partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the African Union.
