Cairo, November 25 (RHC)-- The Arab League has reaffirmed its continued support for Iraq amid Israel's threats of military action against the Arab country, calling for an immediate international intervention to end the occupying regime’s ongoing acts of aggression in the region.

The appeal was made at the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of permanent delegates, under the chairmanship of Yemen, on Sunday, where ways to deal with Israel’s threats against Iraq were discussed.

In a statement, the participants of the meeting condemned the Israeli regime’s efforts to expand conflict in the region, while stressing the need to support Iraq to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

They also called on the Arab League’s Secretary-General to express the position of the regional organization in a message to the United Nations Security Council in support of Iraq and its firm opposition to the recent claims of the Israeli foreign minister.

The Arab League further emphasized the need to take urgent measures to stop the ongoing hostilities in West Asia to maintain global peace and security.

Muhannad Mohsen Alwan, the Chargé d'Affairs at the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo, said: "The support of the Arab League and all brother countries is recorded in favor of Iraq and shows the extent of their confidence and permanent and continuous support to preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty and to support the Iraqi government."

He went on to say that the Israeli regime is trying to fabricate excuses to expand its aggressive practices in the region, stressing that "the Zionist entity violates laws, charters and norms."

"The serious political administration of Iraq shows the extent of its commitment to international conventions and forums," Alwan said.

On Monday, Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar sent a letter to the UN Security Council, asking the body to pressure the Iraqi government to end retaliatory attacks by resistance fighters in the Arab country against the Tel Aviv regime’s interests.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani condemned the Israeli letter as a “pretext to justify aggression against Iraq,” saying it aligns with the regime’s ongoing efforts to expand the war in the region.”

In response to Israel's threats of military action against Iraq, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry also sent official letters to regional and international organizations, warning that the occupying regime is exploiting retaliatory strikes by resistance groups as a pretext to expand its aggression in West Asia.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of anti-terror fighters, has been conducting numerous operations against sensitive targets lying across the Israeli-occupied territories since October 7 last year, when the Zionist entity began waging a bloody onslaught against the Gaza Strip.

At least 44,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, have been killed in the brutal Israeli military onslaught so far.
