Montevideo, October 23 (teleSUR-RHC), -- The presidential electoral campaign in Uruguay came to an end on Thursday with the general election taking place on Sunday.

The three main Uruguayan presidential candidates closed their campaigns in mass rallies seeking last minute support.

Over 2.6 million Uruguayans will be able to vote on Sunday to elect not only their President and Vice President but also 30 senators and 99 legislators.

According to the latest polls, Tabare Vazquez from the Broad Front party leads the race with 42 percent of the votes, followed by the National Party with 30 percent and then the Colorado Party with 15 percent.

As none of the candidates is expected to cast an absolute majority of the votes needed for a first-round victory, the Broad Front and National Party will probably go to a late November run off, where polls show them running neck and neck.

Current Uruguayan President Jose Mujica is from the Broad Front party and his term of office has been marked by reforms in the country. He will leave a solid economy, less poverty, and fewer homeless people in Uruguay, contributing to Broad Front’s ongoing popularity.
