In a statement, the Brazilian government highlights that the group, which now includes Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Iran, is one of the main forums for political-diplomatic articulation among Global South countries, with a focus on cooperation in various areas.

Under the slogan "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance," the Brazilian presidency will focus on two main axes: Global South Cooperation and Global Governance Reform.

Among the priorities of the Brazilian government are the development of payment methods that facilitate trade and investment among member countries, the promotion of inclusive and responsible governance of Artificial Intelligence for development, and the improvement of financing structures to address climate change, in dialogue with COP30 (United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025).

The statement also mentions the importance of promoting public health cooperation projects among Global South countries and the institutional strengthening of the group.

More than 100 meetings have been scheduled in Brasília between February and July of this year, and the BRICS Summit, a space for deliberation among heads of state and government, is initially planned for next July in Rio de Janeiro.
