Cairo, November 24 (RHC)-- The foreign ministers of the Arab League's member states are expected to hold an extraordinary meeting later this week to discuss the situation in occupied Palestinian territories in presence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The meeting is slated to be held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on November 29th.

Arab League deputy chief, Ahmed Ben Helli, said the Arab foreign ministers and Abbas will talk about the recent rise in violence in the region and plans by Palestinians to seek membership in United Nations agencies. Helli added that Israeli activities in East al-Quds (Jerusalem), which are "pushing the region to explosion," will be also discussed during the meeting.

The meeting comes as the Palestinians say they will submit a draft resolution to the UN Security Council this month calling for an end to Tel Aviv's occupation of their territories within the next two years.

Last week, Tel Aviv announced plans to construct more settlement units in East Jerusalem. In an open letter on Friday, November 21st, Abbas condemned the Israeli policies toward Palestine, warning against a religious war in the occupied territories.
