Mexico City, December 2 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Demonstrators across the country marked the second year of President Peña Nieto in office, demanding the safe return of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students. Shouts of “Peña Nieto Get Out” were heard throughout the march, as well as calls to stop the criminalization of social protests.

Contingents of university students, teacher organizations, and labor unions marched from Mexico City's main square Zocalo to the Angel of Independence, along with activists arrested in protests over the past two years grouped in the 1DMX collective, a hip hop group and various autonomous collectives. The same day, 60 protests were announced in other cities throughout Mexico and the world.

As has been done in recent marches, the protesters carried banners saying: “It Was the State” and “We want them back alive,” as well as large photos of the 43 missing students. Their names were shouted out one by one.

Activists also demanded an end to government repression, the release of all political prisoners and the exoneration of members of social movements whose cases have not yet been decided.

In cities throughout Mexico, the protests mainly consisted of large marches, and in a few places more militant tactics were used.

At the Guadalajara International Book Fair, writers Paco Ignacio Taibo and Juan Villoro led a march to the center of the city to demand the return of the 43 Ayotzinapa students.

Solidarity marches and activities were also held in Frankfurt, Germany, Los Angeles, Montreal, Córdoba, London and Brussels, as well as other cities around the world.
