Washington, January 28 (RHC)-- U.S. House Speaker John Boehner has told members of the Republican Party that the body could take legal action against President Barack Obama. Boehner made the remarks over Obama's immigration policies at a closed-door meeting, according to an e-mail by an unnamed participant on Tuesday, the Huffington Post reported.

"We are finalizing a plan to authorize litigation on this issue -- one we believe gives us the best chance of success," Boehner said at the meeting. The plan, which would take the form of a resolution, would allow the House of Representatives to file a lawsuit against the president, the source said.

No timeline has yet been set for the resolution, but the House would continue attempts to combat Obama's executive actions, according to the source. Earlier this month, the House voted to fund measures to block the president's executive actions on immigration, the large components of which are deportation relief programs.

The Republican members of the U.S. Senate say the House Republicans' bill will get a vote in the upper chamber. In order to be passed, the legislation would need Democratic support to get the 60 votes needed.

At a press conference following the closed-door meeting, Boehner was asked what his plans are if the Senate fails to pass the legislation, to which he replied: "There's no reason for me to speculate about what we will or won't do. At this point, it's up to the Senate to act, and I expect that they will soon."

Obama's deportation relief programs would authorize undocumented immigrants who entered the country as children to work and stay in the US temporarily.
