South Korean President Begins Official Visit to Brazil

Brasilia, April 25 (PL-RHC)-- South Korean President Park Geun-hye began an official visit to Brazil, where she will hold talks with his counterpart in this South American country, Dilma Rousseff, and will sign several agreements to strengthen bilateral relations.

The South Korean leader will be welcomed at the Planalto Palace (the presidency headquarters) with corresponding military honors and then both will hold talks behind closed doors. According to the official agenda, both parties will focus their talks on trade, investment, cooperation in the areas of energy, information technology, health and education.

It is also expected that the leaders will sign nine agreements related to the aforementioned areas, reinforcing the political and commercial ties between Brazil and South Korea. Other issues to be discussed include a Brazilian order to override the barriers to exports pork to Seoul to improve the situation of deficit in the trade balance.

Between 2009 and 2014, the flow of bilateral trade between the two countries increased from $7,470 million to $12, 350 million, according to official sources.

After the official agenda in Brasilia, the South Korean head of State will travel to Sao Paulo where she will attend the closing ceremony of a meeting with businessmen from the two nations. The presence here of Park Geun-hye is part of a tour that took her previously to Peru and Colombia.
