Guatemala City, June 18 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Social protests continued in Guatemalan capital on Wednesday as students took to the streets to demonstrate against President Otto Perez Molina and the catalog of corruption cases against the government.

Rallies have remained peaceful, with students taking up guitars and tambourines rather than arms. “We want (Molina’s administration) to pay. Because we contract them to work that has not been done,” said Raisa Morales, an artist involved in the protest.

The students are also using the demonstration to gather information. By handing out surveys, the young participants attempt to determine whether people believe the system is corrupt, and if the removal of Perez Molina would end the current crisis.

Perez Molina was ordered to appear before Congress on Thursday to face questioning over his alleged role in a $14 million corruption scandal that has angered the nation. The Central American country has been awash in corruption scandals in recent months, including multi-million dollar dealings with the Guatemalan social security and tax collection agencies.
