Brasilia, August 6 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Brazil’s Senate President Renan Calheiros pledged on Wednesday to work hard this second term in order to dismantle the anti-government actions taking place inside Congress that affect the democratic stability in the country. 

“We will not permit those bombs inside the Congress, on the contrary we are going to be prepare to tackle the proposals and measures against the economy and we will support the federal government,” said Calheiros. 

However, the senator from the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party said the upper house of the Congress, led by him, will continue to be independent since it has always been on the side of the Brazilians, so he ruled out that his position is for or against the ruling party. 
 
The actions announced by Calheiros follow a media campaign led by the opposition over the past months against the government of President Dilma Rousseff. The result has been mass protests and a sharp drop in the leader's popularity. People dissatisfaction have also been fueled by recent scandals inside the state-majority owned oil giant Petrobras, and the ruling Worker's Party (PT). 

However, political scientist Carlos Henrique Santana said the right wing is doing this to prevent former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva from becoming a front-runner in the 2018 general elections, or maybe to remove Rousseff from office early.
