Sanaa, August 21 (RHC)-- More than two dozen civilians have been killed and scores of others injured after Saudi military aircraft launched a series of airstrikes in Yemen's southwestern province of Ta'izz.

Saudi fighter jets bombarded residential buildings in the Salh district of the province, situated approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) south of the capital, Sana'a, late on Thursday, leaving 29 civilians, mostly women and children, dead. Lebanon's Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported that an unspecified number of people also sustained injuries in the air attacks.

Saudi jets also hit two areas in the central Yemeni province of Ma'rib on Thursday, although no information on possible fatalities and the scope of damage was available. In addition, Saudi warplanes struck the presidential palace in Ta'izz Province, but there were no reports of casualties.

The World Health Organization, the WHO, says that over 4,300 people have been killed in the Yemeni conflict. Local Yemeni sources, however, say the fatality figure is actually much higher.
