Vienna, September 11 (RHC)-- Austria has suspended its train service to and from neighboring Hungary due to the 'massive overcrowding' of the rail traffic as thousands of refugees continued arriving at its borders. "Because of the massive overcrowding of trains coming from Hungary, OeBB has to suspend train services to Hungary temporarily," the Austrian Railways Company announced in a Thursday statement.

The development comes as tens of thousands of refugees, many of them from Daesh-infested countries, have already crossed the border since Austria and Germany threw open their borders. "The flow (of people)... and the large numbers of people waiting at stations to travel onwards has outstripped available capacities since this morning," OeBB added.

Shortly after the announcement, some 500 refugees were held back by Hungarian police authorities from entering the platform at Budapest's Keleti main station, where Railjet trains to Vienna had been departing all morning, according to an AFP report.

The announcement by Austria's rail service comes after 3,700 people crossed the border on foot from Hungary overnight, many of whom were then taken to stations in Vienna on trains and buses to board trains to Germany. Moreover, several hundred people arrived by train from Hungary, while a further 1,000 crossed the border on foot on Thursday morning.

Some 2,500 refugees arrived at Vienna's Westbahnhof train station on Thursday while another 3,000 were still at the Nickelsdorf border crossing point.
