Paris, September 26 (PL-RHC) -- Projects in progress in Guatemala and El Salvador won the UNESCO-Japan award on Education for Sustainable Development, according to a statement published on Friday in Paris.

The Association Seres, which works in both Latin American nations, was recognized for appointing young ambassadors in charge of training and educating other young people regarding sustainability.

Meanwhile, those young people educate and train communities to take actions against climate change, the text said.

The United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) highlighted that Seres encourages the leading role of young generations in fostering sustainable life styles by means of individual and collective actions.

Another winner was the Center for Development of Early Childhood Formal and Non-Formal Education in Bandung, Indonesia.

The other project awarded was rootAbility, in Germany, for its initiative "Green Office Model," which trains young people to be agents that favor change.

The UNESCO-Japan award was created in 2014, as an initiative of the Japanese Government.

The award winners will be presented on November 5 in the French capital.
