Beijing, November 19 (RHC)-- The number of deaths from a landslide in eastern China has risen to 38 as rescue teams continue providing aid to the survivors of the natural disaster.

According to a previous toll given by the official Xinhua state news agency, 36 out of the 38 people buried in the mud were dead, while one was missing and another rescued.

However, Xinhua reported Thursday that the missing person was confirmed dead and an additional body, the relative of a victim, was found, bringing the total death toll to 38. Several days of torrential rains caused avalanches of mud and rock that buried 27 homes in the village of Lidong in the eastern province of Zhejiang last Friday.

Only one person has been rescued since the landslide hit the areas. More than 300 villagers living in and around the village have also been relocated. Over 2,300 rescuers were dispatched to help local authorities search for missing people for the past week.

The families of the victims were being assisted by 50 professional psychologists sent by the government to Zhejiang.

Over USD 663,000 in public donations to help the survivors have been received by local authorities. New buildings will be built to house those who have lost their homes in the deadly landslide.
