Caracas, November 30 (teleSUR-RHC)-- Venezuelan electoral officials began distributing voting machines Sunday, ahead of the upcoming legislative elections.

Almost all voting machines were distributed to polling stations across the country throughout the day, according to Tibisay Lucena, the head of the country's electoral authority, the CNE.

“We're perfectly prepared in regards to all electoral infrastructure,” Lucena said.

The distribution of voting machines is one of the largest steps ahead of the vote. According to a statement from the CNE, final preparations for the upcoming elections will be completed by Wednesday.

Venezuela's electoral process has been internationally recognized as among the most secure in the region, largely due to the use of electronic voting machines. In 2012, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter hailed the nation’s electoral process as the best in the world.

On December 6th, Venezuelans will go to the polls to vote in hotly contested legislative elections. The ruling socialist party, the PSUV, has vowed to continue it's progressive social and economic policies if it maintains a majority in the assembly. The right-wing opposition says it will seek to oust President Nicolas Maduro.

Maduro himself has repeatedly warned there is a concerted and orchestrated campaign to delegitimize the elections, while the opposition coalition has refused to commit to recognizing the results, leading to speculation that they may cry fraud should they fail to win.
