Bogotá, December 18 (RHC-euronews) -- The remains of 29 people who disappeared during the half-century conflict in Colombia were handed over to their families on Thursday (December 17), as the peace process gets back on track.

Earlier this week, representatives of the government and leftist FARC rebels signed an agreement on reparations for war victims. Both sides also agreed to set up tribunals to try those who took part in the conflict raging since 1964.

Some 200 people traveled from all over the country to attend Thursday’s ceremony, held in the central Colombian city of Villavicencio, a traditional stronghold of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

Some had not heard news of their disappeared relative in over a decade. The victims lost their life at the hands of both rebels and backers of the government.

Latin America’s longest war has killed more than two hundred thousand people and displaced millions.
