Panama City, April 13 (RHC-teleSUR) -- Panamanian police raided the headquarters of the law firm at the center of the Panama papers leak on Tuesday to search for evidence of illegal activities.  The country's attorney general said that the raid of Mossack Fonseca in Panama City went without "without incident or interference." 

The attorney general's office added that the aim of the sting was "to obtain documentation linked to the information published in news articles that establish the use of the firm in illicit activities."

Over 11.5 million documents were leaked from the Panamanian law firm which specializes in setting up offshore companies, ensnaring hundreds of politicians, businessmen, and other high-profile figures around the globe in money laundering and tax evasion schemes.

The documents, obtained by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, who worked with over 100 media outlets across the globe to analyze and report the information, contain information on 215,000 offshore entities connected to individuals in more than 200 countries and territories.

Among the Latin American politicians implicated are Argentine President Mauricio Macri, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Peruvian presidential front-runner Keiko Fujimori and Brazilian lawmaker Eduardo Cunha.

The company denies any wrongdoing and tweeted that it "continues to co-operate with authorities in investigations made at our headquarters."
