Bogota, May 12 (RHC)-- Constitutional reform on the balance of power, which includes the suspension of the presidential reelection, already approved by the Congress and the Executive power, re-emerges in Colombia's political scenario, promoted by the Constitutional Court.

A demand presented to the Constitutional Court requesting to reject the prohibition of the presidential election, was frozen during the debate in the plenary, which refused to study the proposal.

The topic was literally buried mainly because the Court, in a statement made recently, rejected the demand arguing it had been weakly presented.

A double presidential term was approved in the country for the first time during former President Alvaro Uribe's presidency, which allowed him to remain for another four years term in the presidency.

Although current President Juan Manuel Santos declared himself in favor of eliminating re-election possibilities, he was also favored by the modification achieved by Uribe and today is in his second term.
