Cannes, May 18 (RHC)-- A famous Brazilian filmmaker, cast, crew and audience rejected the coup against President Dilma Rousseff.  Renowned Brazilian writer and director Kleber Mendonca and his Aquarius film cast and crew have staged a protest in Cannes to express their rejection to the coup in Brazil, The Guardian reported.

Aquarius has been a largely acclaimed drama at the Cannes Film Festival which this year has included only two Latin American films in their list.  The other one is from Argentina.

Mendonca and other anti-coup demonstrators climbed the steps to the Palais Cannes to wave banners expressing their profound rejection to the parliamentary coup that has taken place in Brazil, after the Senate voted in favor of moving ahead with the impeachment process against democratically-elected President Dilma Rousseff.

Protesters were strongly applauded by the audience inside the cinema, who joined the demonstration by holding up similar protest banners. 

The film Aquarius is about an aging music critic — played by Sonia Braga — who resists pressure from a developer to abandon her apartment.  The film was produced before the the political crisis in Brazil erupted to its current dimensions, which have seen Rousseff — the country's first female president — forced out of government under unverified accusations.
