Mexico City, May 31 (RHC-PL) -- Some 27 million Mexicans have been called to vote in the June 5th elections in 14 states to elect more than 1,300 public officials, including 12 governors and 965 mayors.

According to reports from Mexico City, 60 of 100 legislators to the Constituent Assembly will be elected in the Mexican capital.  They will be responsible for drafting the first Constitution of the legislature.

This year's elections will reportedly cost almost twice the amount of elections held six years ago and the states that will spend more will be Veracruz and Puebla, where mini-governors will be elected for a two-year term.

However, of 4,041 candidates registered for the local elections, 67 percent (2,713) had not submitted their reports on incomes and expenses during the campaign, according to the report issued in early May by the National Electoral Institute.

Just one week before the election, the so-called dirty campaigns worsened in the states with the highest number of registered voters, such as Veracruz, where there is a dead heat in the electoral preferences.
