Holland’s foreign minister Frans Timmermans is paying a three-day official visit to Cuba, starting January 5, which includes talks with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez and other activities aimed at boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Timmermans will inaugurate a clinic on Monday of the Feyennord Soccer Club and he will meet with Dutch and Cuban soccer players as part of an accord signed seven months ago by the general director for political affairs with the Dutch Foreign Ministry, Karel van Ooesterom.
The accord aims at boosting bilateral cooperation relations in the fields of sports, culture, trade, investment and agriculture.
Timmermans is also scheduled to sign a memorandum of understanding with Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez to set up a bilateral consultation mechanism.
Holland is one of Cuba’s major commercial partners in Europe; bilateral exchange between the two countries was calculated at 792 million dollars in 2012.
