Havana, January 16 (RHC)-- Several Latin American governments have reacted positively to the latest migratory accord between the United States and Cuba.

The countries that were affected by irregular flows of Cuban migrants trying to reach U.S. soil encouraged by the now ended 'wet foot-dry foot policy' have welcomed the new move by Washington and Havana, which seeks to guarantee regular, safe and orderly flows of migrants between the two countries.

In Panama, the Head of the National Migration Service Javier Carrillo said the new accord will discourage those Cuban migrants, who try to enter Panama illegally from Ecuador en route to the U.S.

The Costa Rican government also expressed satisfaction over the shift in Washington's migratory policy toward Cuba, saying the new accord is in line with regional efforts to fight human trafficking.

Likewise, Foreign Minister of The Bahamas Fred Mitchel, speaking on behalf of his government and other Caribbean states, expressed hope that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump will uphold the new agreement once he is sworn in.
