Havana, March 22 (RHC), -- The second international convention on water resources, Cubagua 2017, opened Tuesday, at Havana's Convention Center.

The first day of the event discussed issues such as access to a reliable and affordable water supply, coupled with adequate sanitation services.

During the meeting, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cuba, Myrta Kaulard, said that this forum is praiseworthy for its integrative vision of the challenges associated with climate change, including extreme droughts.

Under the banner of "The challenge of water and climate change," Cubagua 2017 is sponsored by Cuba's National Water Resources Institute (INRH), the Water Engineering Society of the National Association of Architects and Construction Engineers, with the support of the Autonomous University of Chapingo, in Mexico, among other entities.

The Convention, which ends Friday, has brought together experts from some 20 countries to participate in different events including a workshop on Integrated Management of Water Basins, the 13th International Congress of Water Engineering, the 9th Seminar on Integrated Water Use, and the 2nd Technical-Commercial Symposium.
