Piura, June 14 (RHC-PL)-- A Cuban medical brigade is ready to return home after more than two months of dealing with flood victims and fighting a dengue epidemic in the northern Peruvian city of Piura.

The contingent of 23 health professionals from the Henry Reeve International Contingent arrived on March 31 in Lima and on the same day flew to Piura, almost totally flooded by the torrential rains that devastated several Peruvian regions.

Last week, the Cuban solidarity group received tributes from the Congress of the Republic, which included congressional representatives from all political parties, and the Peru-Cuba Parliamentary League.

The brigade leader in Peru, Rolando Piloto, confirmed that the medical group will return to the island on Thursday.  He told Prensa Latina news agency that the brigade gave 24,349 consultations in Piura, in the camps that shelter thousands of families who lost their homes because of the floods.
