Luanda, September 26 (RHC)-- Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel paid tribute to the Father of Angolan independence Antonio Agostinho Neto.

Upon his arrival Monday in Angola, to attend the inauguration of President Joao Lourenço, Díaz-Canel placed a wreath at the monument built in Agostinho Neto's honor at the Independence Square, where he proclaimed Angola's independence on November 11th, 1975.

The Cuban vice president described as 'remarkable' the development Angola has experienced over four decades of independence.

Díaz-Canel will stay in Angola until Thursday, September 28th. Other activities on his agenda include tributes to Cuban internationalist commander Raúl Díaz Argüelles, who was killed in a mine explosion in 1975 and the martyrs of the Battle of Quifangondo, which occurred on November 10th, 1975 -- the day before the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) declared Angola's independence from Portugal.
