Havana, December 1 (RHC)-- The 6th CARICOM-Cuba Summit will take place in Antigua and Barbuda on December 8th

According to Foreign Ministry sources, the island will go to the event confident of strengthening bilateral relations and seeking joint solutions to problems of great impact in the region.

The Cuban delegation will convey the island´s willingness to further promote integration, cooperation and development initiatives with CARICOM member states.

According to the Foreign Ministry, during the gathering, Cuba will reiterate its interest to contribute with its modest efforts to the economic and social development of the Caribbean countries and expand cooperation in various sectors.

The meeting in Antigua and Barbuda "will be a space for exchange and consultation in a frank and friendly environment, characterized by the brotherhood that exists between the peoples of the countries of the Caribbean Community and Cuba,” the sources told Prensa Latina News Agency.

The importance of preparedness in the face of natural disasters and the consultation in global forums to raise awareness among the international community about the negative effects of climate change will be on the top of the triennial summit´s agenda.

The Foreign Ministry noted that in countries such as Cuba and Antigua and Barbuda, severely affected by Hurricane Irma last September, an indispensable debate in the meeting will be “the need to agree on more effective and immediate cooperation mechanisms in the event of the occurrence of such natural disasters in the region”.

Cuba currently maintains cooperation with the CARICOM countries in health, education and training of human resources.
