Havana, January 5 (RHC-Granma)-- Essential development projects involving social, cultural and economic institutions are being consolidated in Mayabeque, the island’s youngest province, created on January 9, 2011.

Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, emphasized its favorable environment and prospects, after visiting different entities in the municipalities of Quivicán, San José de las Lajas and Güines.

The First Vice President showed his interest not only in the concept of modernity manifested in the works and activities underway, but also in how they contribute to the identity of the province. Among these, the computerization of the Territorial Division of the Software Applications Enterprise (Desoft) and the Joven Club Recreational Technology Center (Youth Computer Club), which is about to be completed, were highlighted.

Díaz-Canel also toured the Sandino Basic Enterprise Unit and the 17 de Mayo Agricultural Production Cooperative.
In the Casa de la Décima of Mayabeque, Díaz-Canel congratulated those who contributed to the work to establish this cultural center and those who work to maintain this Cuban tradition alive, which involves the singing of learned or improvised stanzas of ten octameter verse lines called décima, and was recently declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
