Havana, February 5(RHC-ACN)-- The Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN) of Cuba and the Spanish public company Mercasa have signed a cooperation agreement that provides for a feasibility study toward the creation of a wholesale food market in the Caribbean state.

The project was signed by Francis Herrera Chacón, first vice-president of MINCIN's Group of wholesalers of Foodstuffs and other Consumer Goods and Macarena Olana Choclán, general secretary of the MERCASA Board of Directors.

The Spanish executive noted that this is the first agreement signed by that entity with Cuba. The aim, she said, is to explore the possibility of implementing a wholesale food market in Cuba, thus meeting local demands of dry, frozen, fresh products, fruits and vegetables.

It will provide also for Cuban and foreign producers to access the wholesale food market to sell their products.

Sponsored by Mercasa in conjunction with MINCIN, the study will run for eight months and, if approved, would be part of the national economic plan in 2019.

Juan José Buitrago de Benítez, ambassador of that European nation in Havana, said that it is a magnificent experience in the field of production and distribution, and he described as especially significant that Spain and Cuba carry out a project of these characteristics, an example to be followed, he said.
