Havana, February 24 (RHC)-- Cuban and foreign intellectuals who participated in the 23rd International Book Fair Cuba 2014 expressed in Havana their solidarity with the Venezuelan people by rejecting the coup attempt that is aimed at destabilizing the South American country.
During the closing ceremony of the fair's first stage, a statement was read denouncing the open presence of the U.S. in the violent actions that have been taking place in Venezuela.
The solidarity statement affirmed that the coup attempt was an attack against Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as revenge by Washington's government for the political victory of the CELAC Summit that took place in Havana in late January.
The statement calls for a global mobilization and advocates for the fulfillment of all international committments to protect the right to self-determination.
The event's organizers also expressed their solidarity with Venezuela during the presentation of the book “Antes de que se me olvide”; an interview with Ali Rodriguez Araque, Secretary General of UNASUR and close collaborator of the late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez.
